13. Bret Hart (Net Worth: $14m)
Bret began his wrestling career by earning measly payoffs for his father Stu’s Stampede promotion. Bret had to pay his dues in the minor league before making it to the WWF. One in the WWF, Bret’s earnings increased as he climbed the ladder year by year. As a midcard singles star in 1990-91 he earned around $250,000 per year. By 1994, the year Bret won his second WWF Championship, that figure rose to around $400,000 per year. In 1997 Bret was famously the subject of a bidding war between WWF and rival WCW. Eric Bischoff was willing to offer Hart around $2.8m per year to wrestle for his company. Vince McMahon countered by offering Bret a twenty year deal worth $1.5m per annum. Hart, who was loyal to a fault, signed the contract to stick with the WWF. It was a decision he would regret. Vince informed Hart that it wasn’t financially viable and reneged on the deal and encouraged Hart to sign with WCW. He did and was screwed out of the WWF Championship at Survivor Series 1997. Hart might not have been the same performer in WCW that he was in WWF but he was certainly paid more: a whopping $2.5m per year. (credit: therichest.com, Power Slam magazine)
