Created in January 2005 byBobby Henderson, back then a 24-year-old Oregon State University physics graduate. He started the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster (FSM) due to his opposition of the teachings of intelligent design in biology classes. Henderson, describing himself as a “concerned citizen” representing more than ten million others, argued that intelligent design and his belief “the universe was created by a Flying Spaghetti Monster” were equally valid. In his letter, published May 2005, he noted, “With millions, if not thousands, of devout worshippers, the Church of the FSM is widely considered a legitimate religion, even by its opponents – mostly fundamentalist Christians, who have accepted that our God has larger balls than theirs.” The only dogma allowed in the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is the rejection of dogma. That is, there are no strict rules and regulations, there are no rituals and prayers and other nonsense. Every member has a say in what this church is and what it becomes.
