Court grants former governor N270m bail for N270m fraud


A Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday granted former Governor Ihedi Ohakim of Imo State bail, in the sum of N270m, reports Punch.


Incidentally, Ohakim is being prosecuted for N270m fraud allegedly perpetrated in 2008 when he was the governor of the state. Ohakim was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday and was arraigned on Wednesday. Ohakim’s bail application ordered the ex-governor to produce a surety resident in Abuja to guarantee the bail. The presiding judge, Justice Adeniyi Ademola also mandated the EFCC ‎to submit the passport and other travel documents seized from the former governor to the Deputy Chief Registrar of the court.
