Adidas Just Offered James Harden an Insane Sneaker Deal That's Double His Basketball Contract

Ever since Michael Jordan became "His Airness" thanks to the geniuses at Nike, basketball players have been paid boatloads of cash to wear basketball sneakers on basketball courts. This past season, Nike paid LeBron James an estimated $20 million to wear his own signature style, and even smaller companies like Under Armour are paying guys like MVP Steph Curry major money to make sure he's sporting their logo night-in and night-out.

Now, ESPN reports that Adidas has offered MVP runner-up James Harden, whose endorsement contract with Nike just expired, $200 million over the next 13 seasons. For reference, James Harden is currently under a five year, $80 million dollar deal with the Houston Rockets to actually play basketball (and play it very well, we might add). As ESPN notes, the $200 million total is half of what Adidas was paying to make the uniforms for the entire NBA, a contract they recently decided not to renew. (Nike will make NBA uniforms starting in 2017.) Now, Nike has until next week to match the offer, otherwise Harden will likely be wearing three stripes until he's 38 years old.
