David Gandy showcases his famous abs

He's the world's highest-earning male model and if you needed any proof why they pay David Gandy the big bucks, just cast your eyes over his latest modelling campaign.

Proving that he's more than just a pretty face, David has designed his very own swimwear collection for Autograph at M&S - and shows off his rippling abs and honed arms in the shoot.  

Following the global success of the David Gandy for Autograph underwear debut last year (remember those pictures?), the Essex-born model has created an eight-piece swimwear collection, which lands in store in June.

Speaking about his latest drop of vibrant shorts, 35-year-old David Gandy, who is dating The Saturdays Mollie King, said: 'The underwear collection has been really well received so launching swimwear this summer seemed like the next natural step.'

The chiselled hunk explained that the shorter short and lower rise shape that he introduced for underwear became so popular that he's introduced this for swimwear too, creating a collection that can be worn in the pool or as casualwear throughout summer.

David says he was inspired by the likes of Robert Redford and Steve Newman in the late 60s/early 70s, as well as James Bond

'I was inspired by images of Hollywood stars wearing beautifully made swimwear in the 60s. Some of my big influences for the design were guys like Robert Redford and Steve Newman in the late 60s/early 70s,' he said.

'There’s a great picture of them on the set of Butch Cassidy wearing very cool shorts which I took a lot of inspiration from. I’ve incorporated this in the detail by including the use of side adjusters, contrasting buttons and also the hounds-tooth print which has become a signature of the range,' he explained.

Gandy also took inspiration from a certain spy. 'We were inspired by James Bond,' he told MailOnline at the dinner to launch the range. 'In fact, we totally ripped off James Bond to be honest.'

So how did he get in such good shape for the shoot? 'Nothing too extreme,' he said. 'Two months before, I increased my workouts from 4 to 5 times a week.

'I’m generally pretty fit. I only workout for around 45 minutes per day but that could be at 9.30pm at night or 5am in the morning. It’s just part of my life, and I think that anyone can find 45 minutes a day to work out.'
