There is no movement in real life that mimics the motion done in the seated leg extension machine. The motion is quite unnatural and puts stress on the knees and back. Those with knee problems can very easily injure themselves and even those who don't can suddenly find themselves with bad knees due to this machine. Plus there are tons of other exercises that work out the same muscles with much less risk such as squats, lunges or step-ups.
